Heli-Max Novus CP

When the Novus CP came out I was pretty happy about it.  I thought finally a collective pitch that I can fly around in the living room or practice some acrobatics within the backyard with.  It is light and fairly durable. It is available only in a RTF package and is a Walkera knock off made for Heli-Max. In light winds or indoors it does perform fairly well for itself. Basic forward flight and zipping around the backyard.  It’s motor and gearing is reasonably quiet which makes it sound cool going though the air.  It is NOT super-stable and slight twitchiness with the thumbs can make this tiny bird really unstable really quick. I was told at the LHS that there was a guy who was inverting it in his living room (I figured I must really suck as a pilot and/or he has a really big living room).  I…

Heli-Max Novus N125 CP

The Novus N125 by Heli-Max is a pretty neat little heli. Normally these small helis are really quite a handful and this one would be the same but for some pretty cool innovations for a heli of this size. I had the Novus CP before and when I saw this I initially thought that this was just a tiny bit bigger version of that heli, which I did enjoy quite a bit. The N125 uses the same head design as the CP and as you can see from the picture of mine that you can use the same blades. One of the things that I usually dislike about these small helis is that they are usually tail-driven with a tiny motor like the Novus CP or the Walkera 4G3. The motor usually you hear surging and slowing down all the time. Then in a crash the motor shaft gets bent…

The Walkera 4#3A

This was the second Helicopter that I ever purchased except mine was the 72mhz version since the 2.4Ghz wasn’t out yet.  I was really good with the little mosquito and had tried the Falcon 40. With not a whole lot of success and thought, well I will go back to something smaller.  This looked good and stable in the videos and seemed to be ‘the thing’ that I could practice in the living room since the falcon 40 really isn’t a ‘living room  helicopter’.  The description said it was for intermediate pilots but since I had some months flying a co-axial and about a month or so on the Falcon 40 I thought ‘what the heck it looks like fun’.  I knew that there would be some learning curve here but I was really unprepared for the difficulty of flying this little guy.  I got this at a time before…

Trex 450 V2 – The One That Made Align

About 2 years ago it seemed as though everyone had an Align Trex 450 V2.  I finally got one right before the new “Pro” came out then followed by a ‘Sport” version as well. I was a rebel you might say.  I didn’t’ want to get what everyone else had.  Well that was just plain stupid of me.  The Trex 450 isn’t ‘perfect’ but what is?  It is, however, pretty much the definition of what you might want in a 450 sized helicopter.  It does everything, and it does it well.  The build manual is excellent.  It is easy to assemble.  They give you directions on how to build the head but the head comes pre-assembled.  It is a pretty shade of anodized blue aluminum.  This heli flies well, is easy to maintain and repair and can fly from simple sport flying to 3D.  I crashed mine several times and…

Why Review RC Helicopters?

Hi, My name is Mike and I created this site because I feel like all the magazines and most of the people reviewing RC helicopters are, well a bit removed from those of us who are beginners or intermediate pilots.  The reviews on these pages are my personal experiences with these helicopters.  I’m not being paid by anyone, like a magazine or manufacturing company but I will be putting links to the places where I bought the stuff from. I am building / operating this page just to help people avoid some of the pitfalls I fell into in my radio-controlled journey. It would be nice if you DO like my review and want to try out one of these birds for yourself that you click on my link and help pay the hosting costs. I have been flying RC helicopters for about 3 years now.  It all started when…
